Named for the scientist who visited Australia's shores in 1839, Darwin is a seductive place. The laid-back town, completely rebuilt after a cyclone hit in 1974, is on a peninsula jutting out into Fannie Bay. Not surprisingly, it's a great place for outdoor activities like boating, fishing, and scuba diving. But most people come here for the amazing natural wonders, such as the massive Kakadu National Park. Here you'll find everything from gorgeous waterfalls to fascinating Aboriginal rock paintings.
