Caribbean and Bahamas: Southern Caribbean Cruise

Carnival Cruise Line

Virgin Islands tops many folk's vacation wish lists. Seafarers from around the globe have flocked to the sheltered harbors of St. Thomas since pirates sailed these seas. You'll spot flora and fauna of every brilliant rainbow color on cruises to Dominica, from the iridescent peacocks in Papillote Gardens to giant ferns along jungle trails. Known as the "Isle of Spice," Grenada leaves a flavor in your memories after a visit. There's a reason for this, too… and it's more than just the island's role as one of the world's most important producers of nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and allspice. With pearly pink sand and a jaunty British lilt, Barbados is one of the Caribbean's most captivating islands. Then you cruise to Antigua, located right in the heart of the Caribbean, you can't help but notice relics of the island's British colonial past — high tea is an afternoon ritual and cricket is the local passion, but this independent nation's sunny island vibe reigns supreme. End your Southern cruise visiting Carnival's exclusive new private island for Carnival guests only, Celebration Key™

Day 1 Port of Call Miami Departure 4:30pm

Overview

The City of Miami known as the “Magic City” is located in Southeast Florida, in Miami-Dade County on the Miami River, between the Florida Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Since its incorporation in 1896, the City has grown tremendously, transforming it into one of the world’s renowned centers where people can work, live, and play while enjoying a high quality of life. The City of Miami, known for its diverse culture and ethnicities is the largest municipality in Miami-Dade County. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 362,470. By the year 2010, the population in the City is projected to rise to 390,191. Miami which is known as the Gateway to Latin America attracts a tremendous amount of foreign-born people, resulting in a large Latin American population that includes Cubans, Nicaraguans, Colombians, Venezuelans, Puerto Ricans, Argentineans, Ecuadorians, Brazilians, Dominicans, Haitians and Mexicans. According to the 2000 U.S. census, the City has a 60 percent Hispanic population, a 22.3 percent African-American population, and an 11.9 percent White/other population.

Day 2 Cruising
Day 3 Cruising
Day 4 Port of Call Saint Thomas Arrival 7:00am Departure 4:00pm

Overview

St. Thomas combines the natural beauty of the islands with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands, is one of the most beautiful harbors in the world and the most visited port in the Caribbean. Elegant dining, exciting nightlife, and world-class duty-free shopping are abundant in Charlotte Amalie. The city's reputation as the shopping mecca of the Caribbean draws visitors from all over the region and around the world. A mountainous island, St. Thomas offers stunning vistas in almost every direction. While Charlotte Amalie is full of energy, St. Thomas also provides natural wonders such as the indescribably beautiful Magens Bay and stunning views of the Caribbean from 1,500 feet above sea level. Drake's Seat is particularly famous for its vistas. Sports and activities are abundant in St. Thomas. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the George and Tom Fazio-designed Mahogany Run course. St. Thomas is also well known for its world-class yachting and sport fishing.

Day 5 Port of Call Dominica Arrival 9:00am Departure 6:00pm

Overview

This 290-square-mile (750 sq km) island is a must for eco-tourists, naturalists, botanists, divers, and visitors seeking holiday adventure. Dominica is one of the few Caribbean islands that has truly changed very little since Columbus visited and named it 500 years ago. Known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica has a unique microclimate – lush rainforests, volcanic peaks, thundering waterfalls, cloud-covered hills, sulfur springs, pools of bubbling therapeutic mud, and hot mineral streams. This tropical wonderland has 365 rivers, many of them providing excellent swimming. The exotic animals and plants that have been wiped out on nearby islands thrive here. Nature is spectacularly and uncontrollably rampant. When you hike through the island's forests, you are as close to nature as it is possible to get. Rich in ferns, wild orchids, and giant, flowering trees, they are home to bats, iguanas, stick insects, and blacksmith beetles so big they can be heard moving about on the forest floor. There are five species of snakes – none of them poisonous – and more than 160 bird species, including two endemic but endangered parrots, making Dominica a magnet for bird watchers. Some of the island’s most dramatic sights can be seen in the 17,000-acre (69sq km) Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a designated World Natural Heritage Site. Here you’ll see mist-veiled peaks looming over the rainforest and marvel at the Boiling Lake, where sulfurous springs sizzle and steam at up to 197F (92C). Sealife off the island is equally awe-inspiring. There are excellent dive sites with peaks, sheer walls, valleys, and hot springs on the seabed. In the winter breeding season – November to March – humpback, pilot whales, and especially sperm whales and their calves can be seen in the deep, calm offshore waters. Whale-watching trips are very popular with visitors. Another vital aspect of Dominica is that it is now the home of 3,000 surviving descendants of the Caribs, the pre-Columbian people who gave the Caribbean its name. Although the Carib language has perished, they have their territory, where their baskets and wood carvings are sold to visitors and some of their traditions are maintained, such as whaling. The capital, Roseau, is the best base from which to journey into the interior. It’s a quiet town where, although English is the country’s official language, you’ll hear the French-based Creole patois spoken in the streets, markets, cafes, and many rum shops. Night-life is usually calm and relaxed except, perhaps, when the island hosts the annual three-day World Creole Music Festival, attracting star singers and musicians from throughout the French-speaking Caribbean, the United States, Africa, and Europe. Dominica welcomes tourists who want to see more – and help protect – its unique natural wonders.

Day 6 Port of Call Grenada Arrival 8:00am Departure 5:00pm

Overview

One of the smallest independent countries in the Western hemisphere, Grenada was seized by a Marxist military council on 19 October 1983. Six days later the island was invaded by US forces and those of six other Caribbean nations, which quickly captured the ringleaders and their hundreds of Cuban advisers. Free elections were reinstituted the following year.

Day 7 Port of Call Barbados Arrival 7:00am Departure 4:00pm

Overview

Barbados is an eastern Caribbean island and an independent British Commonwealth nation. Bridgetown, the capital, is a cruise ship port with colonial buildings and Nidhe Israel, a synagogue founded in 1654. Around the island are beaches, botanical gardens, the Harrison’s Cave formation, and 17th-century plantation houses like St. Nicholas Abbey. Local traditions include afternoon tea and cricket, the national sport. Tourism is big business in Barbados, and most visitors who come to the island are looking for that comfortable mix of the familiar peppered with just enough local flavor to feel 'exotic.' So if you're looking for a Caribbean island with plenty of amenities, watersports, and nightlife, Barbados fits the bill. Travelers wanting to explore undeveloped areas and get off the beaten track should start looking for another island.

Day 8 Port of Call Antigua Arrival 10:00am Departure 7:00pm

Overview

Antigua, the largest of the English-speaking Leeward Islands, is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide, encompassing 108 square miles. Its highest point is Boggy Peak (1319 ft.), located in the southwestern corner of the island. The expansive, winding coastline that made Antigua difficult for outsiders to navigate is where today's trekkers encounter a tremendous wealth of secluded, powdery soft beaches. The coral reefs, once the bane of marauding enemy ships, now attract snorkelers and scuba divers from all over the world.

Like any destination restaurant, reservations for Steakhouse are highly recommended. Your meal includes an appetizer, salad, entrée, side and dessert. Steakhouse Selections: Whoever said you can’t always get what you want certainly never said it on a Carnival cruise. Odds are that something from our steakhouse sounds good — filet mignon, New York Strip, lobster, or surf and turf. Now you can get these signature steakhouse dishes anytime you’re enjoying dinner in the main dining room. This option is available for an additional cost.

The Chef's Table: Treat your taste buds to a unique culinary event hosted by one of Carnival's master chefs. Your VIP experience begins with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for a select group of 14, followed by a galley tour.
