Fort Lauderdale is a city on Florida's southeastern coast, known for its beaches and boating canals. The Strip is a promenade running along oceanside highway A1A. It's lined with upscale outdoor restaurants, bars, boutiques, and luxury hotels. Other attractions include the International Swimming Hall of Fame, with pools and a museum of memorabilia, and Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, featuring trails and a lagoon.
Princess Cays is a remote peninsula near the tip of Eleuthera Island, about 30 miles across the sea from Nassau. About forty acres of land are reserved exclusively for the cruise line's passengers. Activities at this Princess-only place begin and end at the beach. Swimming, kayaking, paddle boating, banana boating (visit and find out what that's about!), snorkeling, jet-skiing, and parasailing fill the day. Kids have their playground and pint-size "pirate ship" to occupy their time. Explorers will take to the trails to find the Crow's Nest, the Mangrove Lagoon, and the Lagoon Lookout.
St. Thomas combines the natural beauty of the islands with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Charlotte Amalie, the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands, is one of the most beautiful harbors in the world and the most visited port in the Caribbean. Elegant dining, exciting nightlife, and world-class duty-free shopping are abundant in Charlotte Amalie. The city's reputation as the shopping mecca of the Caribbean draws visitors from all over the region and around the world. A mountainous island, St. Thomas offers stunning vistas in almost every direction. While Charlotte Amalie is full of energy, St. Thomas also provides natural wonders such as the indescribably beautiful Magens Bay and stunning views of the Caribbean from 1,500 feet above sea level. Drake's Seat is particularly famous for its vistas. Sports and activities are abundant in St. Thomas. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the George and Tom Fazio-designed Mahogany Run course. St. Thomas is also well known for its world-class yachting and sport fishing.
This 290-square-mile (750 sq km) island is a must for eco-tourists, naturalists, botanists, divers, and visitors seeking holiday adventure. Dominica is one of the few Caribbean islands that has truly changed very little since Columbus visited and named it 500 years ago. Known as the Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dominica has a unique microclimate – lush rainforests, volcanic peaks, thundering waterfalls, cloud-covered hills, sulfur springs, pools of bubbling therapeutic mud, and hot mineral streams. This tropical wonderland has 365 rivers, many of them providing excellent swimming. The exotic animals and plants that have been wiped out on nearby islands thrive here. Nature is spectacularly and uncontrollably rampant. When you hike through the island's forests, you are as close to nature as it is possible to get. Rich in ferns, wild orchids, and giant, flowering trees, they are home to bats, iguanas, stick insects, and blacksmith beetles so big they can be heard moving about on the forest floor. There are five species of snakes – none of them poisonous – and more than 160 bird species, including two endemic but endangered parrots, making Dominica a magnet for bird watchers. Some of the island’s most dramatic sights can be seen in the 17,000-acre (69sq km) Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a designated World Natural Heritage Site. Here you’ll see mist-veiled peaks looming over the rainforest and marvel at the Boiling Lake, where sulfurous springs sizzle and steam at up to 197F (92C). Sealife off the island is equally awe-inspiring. There are excellent dive sites with peaks, sheer walls, valleys, and hot springs on the seabed. In the winter breeding season – November to March – humpback, pilot whales, and especially sperm whales and their calves can be seen in the deep, calm offshore waters. Whale-watching trips are very popular with visitors. Another vital aspect of Dominica is that it is now the home of 3,000 surviving descendants of the Caribs, the pre-Columbian people who gave the Caribbean its name. Although the Carib language has perished, they have their territory, where their baskets and wood carvings are sold to visitors and some of their traditions are maintained, such as whaling. The capital, Roseau, is the best base from which to journey into the interior. It’s a quiet town where, although English is the country’s official language, you’ll hear the French-based Creole patois spoken in the streets, markets, cafes, and many rum shops. Night-life is usually calm and relaxed except, perhaps, when the island hosts the annual three-day World Creole Music Festival, attracting star singers and musicians from throughout the French-speaking Caribbean, the United States, Africa, and Europe. Dominica welcomes tourists who want to see more – and help protect – its unique natural wonders.
Castries is the capital and largest city of Saint Lucia, an island country in the Caribbean. The quarter with the same name had a population of 70,000 on 22 May 2013 and stretches over an area of 80 km2. Castries is in a flood gut and is built on reclaimed land. It houses the seat of government and the head offices of many foreign and local businesses. The city's design is in a grid pattern. Its sheltered harbor receives cargo vessels, ferry boats, and cruise ships. It houses duty-free shopping facilities such as Point Seraphine and La Place Carenage. Many restaurants offer menus from local to Chinese. Supermarkets and other shopping facilities provide goods. The city is well served by a bus system and taxi service.
Mountainous Martinique, also known as the “Land of Flowers,” is certainly one of the most colorful islands in the Caribbean. Acres of fertile soil account for lush tropical vegetation and an abundance of flowers, vast stretches of banana plantations, pineapple fields, and green seas of sugarcane. The 425-square-mile island is the largest of the Windward Islands. With its great diversity of towering mountains, verdant rain forests, beaches, and French-Caribbean ambiance, Martinique appeals to a wide spectrum of visitors.
Saint John's is the capital of the island nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Located in northwestern Antigua, this is a cove of the Caribbean Sea, and a major exporter of sugar, rum, cotton, handicrafts, fiber-made items, ceramics, and fabrics. The city is also a tourist destination. St. John's skyline, the capital and major city in Antigua and Barbuda is mastered by the baroque magnificence of the St. John's Cathedral's dome and steeple. These steeples are Antigua's first sight for almost half of all foreign travelers who visit the island nation every year since they come by boat. There are several sightseeing places in St. John's. This is one of the Caribbean's oldest trade ports, built in the late 17th Century. Other interesting spots are the Old Court House, built in 1747, the ruins of Fort James, harking back to 1703, The Antigua and Barbuda Museum, Marine and Living Arts Museum, Redcliffe Quay, plus several other castles and fortresses built centuries ago for the defense of this strategic enclave. The completion of different hotels and resorts to attend to all cruise liners and other vessels docking in has made St. John's a top-rated hub of shopping malls and good-cuisine restaurants. This is a city throbbing with life, a place where you can spend the day at any of its beautiful beaches and enjoy a bustling nightlife later on.
