A focus on festivals, food and fashion.A sporting centre, home to the Darwin Cup, the Arafura Games and more and more exciting national and international sporting events City - Set on a rocky peninsula reaching into one of the most beautiful natural harbours on the north Australian coast. Elevated above the cliffs, surrounded by water on three sides, a city fanned by soft cool breezes that contribute to its tropical charm. The tropical climate encourages outdoor living and locals and visitors alike take advantage of this lifestyle to stroll through Darwin's leafy streets, browsing through the art galleries and enjoying cafe life, discovering little hidden corners of the city. The contrasts are exquisite. A Chinese temple with its statues of the Immortals, the smoke from incense drifting slowly upward, lies only twenty metres behind busy Cavenagh St but exists in a different world, timeless and peaceful. Darwin - a city of contrasts and tempting tastes. Where shady parks suitable for quiet contemplation lie only metres from streets full of shoppers, the smells of food drift on the air from sizzling grills, flaming woks and bubbling saucepans. Darwin - take time to enjoy its wonderful trees that surprise our visitors, exotic flowering trees, frangipani, Pride of India and poincianas, the shady rain trees, banyan and tamarind trees delight the senses and leave images of a truly tropical city. Darwin - A city destroyed three times - first by the cyclone of 1893, then by the bombs of World War II, next by Cyclone Tracy. The spirit of survival is undiminished, Darwin has grown and developed to become the modern city of today, a monument to the tenacity and courage of its people.
Depart the True North at the foot of one of the most majestic waterfalls in the region. The King George Twin Falls are the highest waterfalls in Western Australia. They are approximately 80 meters high. In the helicopter, you will ascend some 900 feet to take memorable photographs of the amazing Twin Falls before traveling northeast to the mouth of Ting George viewing an abundance of wildlife. Return via the rugged meandering gorge system with its various offshoots for a unique landing inside the river on top of the True North. If climbing to the top of the waterfall isn't for you, take the easy way up! This is a great opportunity to admire the majestic views of the King George River from the top of the Twin Falls. Donít forget your bathers and camera.
Spend the day in Vansattart Bay and visit some ancient Bradshaw art and the wreckage of a DC3. Reef fish near Jar Island. Anchor at the Sir Graham Moore islands where there was a WWII LORAN base situated. To the south is the Anjo peninsula where the once secret Truscott Airbase is situated. Drop a line over for some fresh fish for dinner.
The remote Hunter River with its beautiful blue water, stunning deep red cliffs, and gorges is home to the Kimberleyís highest rainfall. Severalf rare and near-extinct species of wildlife also live in isolated pockets of tropical jungles in this area. You will see Donkin and Enid Falls, twowell-keptt secrets before flying along the Roe River, notorious for large Crocodiles. From there you can often see wild forgotten cattle in the hidden valley as you make your way back to the True North.
Kuri Bay was named after one of the Japanese founders (Mr Kuribayashi) of the cultured pearl industry in 1956. Since, the 1930’s, the pearling industry essentially consisted of diving for Australian &ssquo; mother-of-pearl shells. In 1956 the first cultured pearl farm was established in Australia with joint Australian, Japanese & American interests – this place became known as Kuri Bay. It was sold to the Paspaley Pearling Company in 1989, & is now Australia’s largest cultured pearl farm.
The tide differentials in the Kimberley are among the greatest in the world. The phenomenon of the 140 square mile reef system known as Montgomery Reef is the product of Kimberley's tide differentials, which can be as much as 26-30 feet. Unlike Atlantis which sank to the bottom of the sea and stayed there, twice a day as the high tide goes out, Montgomery Reef emerges from the sea.The expedition arrives at low tide as the reef becomes visible. There is the opportunity to walk on the reef and see the corals. Incredibly, even though the corals are exposed to the sun every day, the corals suffer no adverse effects. Scientists have discovered that this is because the corals secrete a mucus sunblock with an SPF of 45. Montgomery Reef is truly fantastic.

At Talbot Bay visit the Horizontal Waterfalls, one of the most unusual Kimberley attractions. The falls are created by a phenomenon resulting from the mammoth tides of this region and reverse as the tide turns. Talbot Bay is a prime habitat for dugongs, herbivorous marine mammals found only in tropical coastal waters of the Old World. It is also one of the world’s best locations for commercial pearling.

The Lacepede Islands are just a couple of sand islands in a lovely setting in the Indian Ocean, 70 miles North of Broome. These are full of nesting booby birds, with seagulls & frigate birds hanging around in the hope of a meal in the form of booby chicks. There are also hundreds of turtle nest diggings & at least half a dozen hanging around in a small bay probably waiting for the nighttime high tide to come ashore to lay their eggs. There is a sort of turtle graveyard- complete skeletons of large turtles that didn’t make it back to the sea in time & paid a heavy price. One example is of a turtle that was on top of a booby nest with the skeleton of what seemed to be a booby chick under the turtle skeleton. Cool sunsets with hundreds of birds heading back to roost on Lacepede.
Broome is Western Australia's secret getaway - right on the Indian Ocean's doorstep and the gateway to Australia's last frontier of pristine wilderness - the Kimberley. From its rough-and-tumble, romantic pearling history to the cosmopolitan character of Chinatown, to the turquoise waters, red sandstone cliffs, and the endless expanse of white sand at Cable Beach. The colors and moods of Broome will capture your soul. Broome owes its existence to the Pinctada maxima - the world's largest pearl oyster shell - discovered in Roebuck Bay in 1861. The giant pinctada shells caused a sensation overseas and soon a melting pot of nationalities flocked to the shores of Broome in the hope of making their fortune. Japanese, Malays, and Koepangers joined the Aboriginal pearl divers, while the Chinese became the shopkeepers in town. Today, remnants of Broome's exotic past are everywhere. The town's multicultural society ensures a wonderful array of gourmet tastes, colorful characters, and cultural influences. Pearling remains a thriving industry and the world-famous South Sea pearls feature in Chinatown's string of pearl galleries. Broome's climate is also something to boast about with warm sunny days, balmy nights, and spectacular storms during the tropical summer season. Not to mention the unforgettable spectacle of sunset on Cable Beach!
