Rarotonga is the beating heart of the Cook Islands archipelago. There are no traffic lights, no fast-food chains, and no building taller than the highest coconut tree. As the warm sun surrounds you and you catch a hint of frangipani in the air, you realize just how unspoiled this destination has remained. It takes around 45-minutes to drive around the entire island of Rarotonga, giving you plenty of time to soak in the jungle-clad mountains and electric-white sand beaches.
Exploring Town : Take a daytime stroll to the town of Avaru to explore boutique shops and meet the gracious island locals.
Hiking : The jungle-clad mountains provide endless hiking opportunities to visitors. The interior is rugged, so plan accordingly.
Pearls : Two atolls north of the island cultivate black pearls, making Rarotonga a great place to pick some up for yourself or as gifts.
