Day 2: Les Andelys

Morning Activity Options:
Option A: Château Gaillard Hike
Reward yourself with spectacular views of the Seine and the Normandy countryside after an exhilarating hike 300 feet (90 meters) above the commune of Les Andelys to the Chȃteau Gaillard, a ruined medieval castle that was constructed in AD 1196 under Richard the Lionheart.
Option B: Château Gaillard Hike and Bike
For those Adventurers with extra energy to burn, get the best of both worlds as you take to the hiking and biking trails. Your bike ride takes you on the trails throughout the provincial town of Les Andelys, followed by a hike where you will ascend 300 feet (90 meters) up to the medieval masterpiece Chateau Gaillard for magnificent views of Les Andelys and the Seine.
Please note: The bike ride is not suited for a child who is 11 years old or younger. We strongly recommend that Guests be in shape, know how to ride a bike, have ridden a bike recently, and know that the bike ride will take place on a solid surface, gravel and cobblestones, through towns, along the river, near traffic, crossing streets, etc.
Option C: Panoramic Coach Tour
Relax in the comfort of a mini-coach as you take in the surrounding sites of the provincial town of Les Andely on this amazing guided tour. You’ll also take a photo stop with stunning views of Château Gaillard, Les Andelys and the Seine River.

Spend a moving and immersive day at the landing beaches of Normandy, including Omaha Beach, the site of the famed D-Day operation. Guided by historians from the local D-Day Academy, you will delve deeply into the history of World War II while traveling from site to site on authentic military vehicles from that era.
American Cemetery Visit
Honor the brave American soldiers who fought to defend our freedom in World War II on Normandy Beach—the site where an armada of Allied troops landed on D-Day.

Normandy Tour Continues
Following lunch, proceed to Pointe du Hoc, where US Army Rangers scaled 100-foot cliffs to capture a critical German outpost on D-Day.

Option A: Time On Your Own in Honfleur
Spend the day strolling and shopping through the picturesque coastal town of Honfleur, whose Vieux-Bassin (old harbor) has served as the inspiration for artists that include Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin and Claude Monet. Located where the Seine meets the English Channel, the town is home to Sainte-Catherine, the largest wooden church in France.
Option B: Apple Orchard Visit
Spend the day touring a local apple orchard, where you’ll learn about calvados, a sweet apple brandy that is a specialty of the Normandy region. Following the excursion, you will get a short amount of time to explore Honfleur on your own.

Étretat Cliffs Hike
Enjoy breathtaking views where you can hike on your own at the beautiful seaside commune and farming town of Étretat, known for its stunning chalk cliffs, which include 3 natural arches and a pointed formation known as the Needle, which reaches a height of 230 feet (70 meters) above the sea overlooking the English Channel.
Time On Your Own in Étretat Village
Explore this quaint seaside village, home to the Notre-Dame de la Garde Chapel, which was built by sailors in the 19th century. You can also visit the old market square, which features charming boutiques as well as shops that offer local cheese and apple products.

Journey into the stunning Giverny landscape on this visit to Claude Monet’s beautifully restored 19th-century home, where he lived from 1883 until his death in 1926. Enjoy a privately guided tour that includes the lush gardens where the famed French impressionist painter found inspiration for some of his most renowned works including Water Lilies and Wheatstacks.
Giverny Museum of Impressionisms & Junior Adventurer Painting Activity
Discover the works of Monet and see the influence that his art had on his contemporaries, as well as generations of artists that followed him at the Museum of Impressionisms. Junior Adventurers will create their own masterpieces in the museum’s garden.

Option A: Château de Bizy
Marvel at this ornate castle and its stunning gardens that showcase a true passion for elegance. Now a historic monument, the site was begun in 1740 with successive owners adding their own touches throughout the years. The grounds boast a splendid collection of fountains and an English-style vegetable garden. During this visit, enjoy exclusive lawn games and traditional entertainment at this stunning castle.
Option B: Time On Your Own in Vernon
Adventurers may choose to explore the quaint historical district of Vernon, located on the banks of the river Seine and home to shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as sites like the Old Mill, the Archives Tower, Tourelles Castle and the House of Long Ago.
Option C: Bicycle Ride On Your Own in Vernon
Enjoy a leisurely, on-your-own bike ride through the town of Vernon where you can explore the historical district, its Gothic architecture, 12th-century castles and the famous old mill.

Explore this exquisite French castle and its accompanying park that was once home to Napoleon and Josephine Bonaparte, as well as the headquarters of the French government from 1800 to 1802. It now serves as a national museum.
Option B: Visit Auvers-sur-Oise
Get inspired on your visit to this commune in Paris’ northwest suburbs where 19th-century artists including Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissarro, Jean-Baptise-Camille Corot and, most notably, Vincent van Gogh lived and painted. The guided visit includes the final resting cemetery of both Vincent and Theo van Gogh, as well as a look inside the boarding house where Vincent last lived.
