Europe and Mediterranean: Iceland Intensive Voyage

Azamara

Your voyage begins in delightful Dublin. Visit elegant galleries and shops, historical sights and pubs, and learn the history of Ireland's most popular stout at the Guinness Storehouse. Two luxurious days at sea give you the chance to indulge in specialty dining venues and a collection of fine wines. Then an overnight stay in the world's northernmost capital, Reykjavik is next. The Icelandic adventure continues through breathtaking Isafjordur, followed by Skagafjordur, where the population of Icelandic horses outnumber the people. The second overnight in Akureyri is the perfect opportunity to explore the Eyjafjörður fjord. Your voyage continues to Husavik, Iceland's whale-watching capital, then picturesque Seydisfjordur. Afterward, say bless bless to Iceland for another two days of pampering at sea before concluding the journey in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Day 1Port of Call DublinDeparture 6:00pm

Overview

Dublin is the capital of Ireland, Irish culture and cuisine. The regional and micro breweries that once flourished, although crowded out of business for the last hundred or so years by Guiness, more for its marketing and transportation triumphs than necessarily for qualitative reasons, are coming back to add local color and variety to the famous old Irish pubs. Ireland has produced some of the world’s greatest writers, and in its traditional folk ballads and rich melodies you can hear the unique elements which form the roots of modern rhythm and blues music.

Day 10Port of Call Seydisfjordhur Arrival 8:30amDeparture 10:00pm

Overview

Seydisfjörur fjord is long and narrow and flanked by high mountains. At its head lies a town which, bears the same name as the fjord itself. The river Fjarará flows through Seydisfjörur town and it has one of the best natural harbours in the country. The town of Seydisfjörur experienced an economic boom just before the turn of the last century, when the Norwegian Otto Wathne and other entrepreneurs began fishing and processing herring on a major scale. Thus the oldest part of the town is built in 19th century Norwegian-style architecture, making Seydisfjörur unique among Icelandic fishing towns. The sub-oceanic telegraph cable that linked Iceland with the outside world came ashore there in 1906 and soon connected the rest of the country through overhead lines. During World War II Seyisfjörur became a major military base. Seydisfjörur is the closest Icelandic port to the Faeroe Islands and Europe. Since 1975 a Faeroese passenger and car ferry has operated scheduled weekly sailings between Seydisfjörur and Scandinavia during the summer, and this has attracted considerable tourism to the area. The cultural life is very lively during the summer. The Art festival is a yearly event. The Blue Church has concerts every Wednesday in summer. Art exhibitions are at the cultural center and a Crafts Market. There is a swimming pool, a golf course, mini golf and the Rarik electricity museum. Also offered are guided sightseeing tours, cruises, sea angling tours, and trips to Lomundarfjörur fjord. There are a variety of marked hiking trails in the area, and fishing licenses are available for purchase.

Day 11 Cruising
Day 12 Cruising
Day 13Port of Call Leith Arrival 6:45am

Overview

Leith is the largest enclosed deepwater port in Scotland and has the capability to handle handymax ships up to 50,000 DWT. The port offers a full stevedoring and cargo handling service. It is well equipped with modern cranes and equipment and storage is available in modern, secure, single span transit sheds or in surfaced open compounds. The port is well served by road and rail links. Access and egress to the main working area of the port is through a security checkpoint providing 24 hour coverage where passes are issued and documentation checked to ensure the large amount of goods moving through this area is properly controlled. A computerised stock keeping system is in place for all commodities that allows customers fast access to updated stock reports. The port offers excellent rail and road connections and Central Edinburgh is easily accessible. Leith has been a port since at least the 12th century and although conscious of its history, the port today is a modern, vibrant maritime getaway. Significant capital investment has been made in the development of port infrastructure and this has ensured that the highest levels of service can be provided to customers. Located on Scotland's east coast, Leith is well situated for the busy North Sea shipping lanes and offers easy access to Continental Europe. The fact that it is a non-tidal enclosed dock system makes it ideal for more complex cargo handling and specialist work. Leith is increasingly used as a turn round port for disembarkation and embarkation of cruise passengers and their baggage. The ease of transfer from ship to land is also ideal for replenishing ships. Many warships from various Navies conduct courtesy calls at the port.

Dining

Discoveries

Discoveries

Main Dining

Discoveries Restaurant (open seating): Discover the world through dishes and flavors from the places you visit. Whether it’s a Destination Immersion dinner buffet or the Destination Immersion cuisine on the dinner menu, give your dining a little local flavor and enjoy on shore tastes onboard! You will also enjoy a wide variety of nightly selections such as filet mignon with black truffle sauce. With its elegant yet lively dining and renewed décor, it’s easy to see why this restaurant is the culinary heart of the ship. Reservations are not accepted. Choose being seated at a table for two or as part of a larger group of fellow guests.

Prime C

Prime C

Specialty Dining

Aqualina: At Aqualina, you’ll find some of Italy’s most celebrated dishes as well as contemporary inventive cuisine. Start with lobster ravioli, followed by arugula and radicchio with prosciutto chips, and a Venetian seafood platter. You won’t be able to say no to these famous desserts: marsala custard, lemon soufflé, or tiramisu. The chefs love to be inspired, so after an on shore visit to a local market, you can also expect a delectable dish so local, you’ll feel like you’re not onboard anymore.

Prime C: At Prime C, you’re in for more than an array of delectable dining such as steaks cooked to perfection, crab cakes with remoulade, lobster bisque, lamb, game hens and seafood. Last but certainly not least, try the mini cinnamon-sugar donuts with dipping sauces for dessert. Expect a marvelous evening in a warm wood-paneled ambiance with stunning views and lush décor. If the chef has made a visit to a local market while in port, you’ll also have an authentic local dish to look forward to.

Specialty Dining: Guests staying in a suite are welcome to dine any night of the voyage in Aqualina or Prime C at no charge. Guests who have booked a Club Veranda, Club Oceanview, or Club Interior stateroom are subject to a USD 30 per-person cover charge in Aqualina or Prime C.

Windows Café

Windows Café

Casual Dining

Windows Café: The best way to see where you are in the world is not by looking at your itinerary, but by checking out the menu at Windows Café! The daily themed dinner often takes its inspiration from the region you are visiting. There’s even a live station made from local ingredients purchased in port: Greek salad made with local feta (Greece), pasta prepared with local mushrooms (Italy), fresh Mussels served with garlic bread (Netherlands). Take in the fresh breeze at an outdoor table and relax in the easy and casual atmosphere of the newly renovated Windows Café. Enjoy an intimate breakfast, lunch, or dinner for two or a lively meal for six with flexible seating options. And speaking of choices, selections change daily. Choose from fresh sushi, stir-fry and pasta, salads, smoked lox and other cold fish, a carving station and of course, desserts.

The Patio: Casual “pool grill” by day, then fine tablecloths and flickering candles will set the mood for a sit-down al fresco dining experience by night. Taste your way around the world with exclusive personalized dishes using local flavors of the places visited on the Destination Immersion® cuisine dinner menu served by professional wait staff.

Mosaic Café: Comfortable and stylish, Mosaic is the place where you’ll find your favorite coffee drinks, just the way you like (for an additional fee). Slip into a comfortable seat and sip for a while. The perfect place to start (or end) your day, no matter where you are in the world. This just might become your favorite area on the ship.

Room Service: Room service is available 24-hours a day. Order from the full breakfast menu between 6:30 AM and 10:00 AM, and have it delivered at your appointed time. Lunch and dinner room service features a menu of hearty soups, fresh salads, gourmet sandwiches, pizzas and desserts.
