Callao's professional football teams are Sport Boys and Atlético Chalaco Callao has several islands: San Lorenzo-currently a military base, El Frontón-a former high security prison, the Cavinzas Islands, and the Palomino Islands, where numerous sea lions and sea birds live in a virtually untouched ecosystem. There are proposed plans to build a huge naval, terrestrial, and air port on San Lorenzo Island. This project is called the San Lorenzo Megaport Project.

Day 3 Port of Call Pisco Arrival 8:00am Departure 6:00pm

Overview

Pisco is a small city located in the Ica Region of Peru, the capital of the Pisco Province. The city is around 9 metres above sea level. Pisco was founded in 1640,close to the indigenous emplacement of the same name. Pisco originally prospered because of its nearby vineyards and became noted for its grape brandy or pisco which was exported from its port. Pisco has an estimated population of 133,926. Pisco is a Quechua word that means "bird". The area is often visited because of the concentration of marine animals and birds at the Paracas National Reserve, or the Peruvian Galápagos. At the reserve there are the Islas Ballestas, a collection of islands which are off limits to people, but boat tours can get close to. The Chincha Islands are also near its coast. Many bird species can be seen in the islands including pelicans, penguins, cormorants, Peruvian boobies, and Inca terns, as well as sea lions, turtles, dolphins, and whales.

Day 4 Cruising
Day 5 Port of Call Arica Arrival 8:00am Departure 10:00pm

Overview

Arica spreads out at the foot of El Morro Hill, the site of a major battle of the Peruvian War (1879-83). Today, the hill is a national historic monument, complete with an open-air museum. The summit of El Morro affords excellent panoramic views, which survey the city, the ocean, and even the distant Atacama. Also of interest in Arica is the San Marcos de Arica church, designed by the famed tower-builder Gustav Eiffel. Historically, Arica was an important trade centre for products from the interior, and the Quechua and Aymara Indians still come to the city to sell traditional handicrafts. Arica is also a major transportation center, with international air links to Bolivia and Peru. Among adventure travelers, the city is best known as the starting point for excursions into the Atacama Desert. The Museo Arqueologicò San Miguel de Azapa, located a short distance out of town, gives an excellent introduction to the history of the area. Among its most fascinating exhibits are a collection of Incan mummies, whose bodies were perfectly preserved in the extraordinarily arid sands of the forbidding Atacama. Known as "The City of Eternal Spring," Arica is located at the northern tip of Chile on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. It is blessed with a mild, dry climate and waters warm enough for swimming, making it a popular, year-round beach resort. The best bathing spots are a number of sheltered coves south of town, which offer calm waters and a picturesque, unspoiled setting.

Day 6 Port of Call Iquique Arrival 8:00am Departure 4:00pm

Overview

Iquique is the capital of the First Region. Iquique is also the principal fishing port in Chile. The commercial activity of this city is centred around its Zona Franca (duty free area). Iquique offers a mixture of shopping, history, attractive beaches, and it is boarded by the desert, the sea, an oasis and the Altiplano (high plateau). In Iquique we can find evidence of mining dating back to the magnificent times when saltpeter was mined, and historical sites as well as the great surroundings, such as the Pampa del Tamarugal (mesquite grove) and the Pica Oasis in the middle of the desert.

Day 7 Port of Call Antofagasta Arrival 9:00am Departure 8:00pm

Overview

Antofogasta, the capital of the second region in Chile, is a real invitation to explore the times when saltpetre was responsible for the growth of most of Chile´s northern cities. Throughout the city, you can see the remains of old houses and offices of those who reached this deserted corner of the country in search of fame and fortune. In Antafogasta´s historical centre, most tourists do the traditional circuit that follows the tracks of the pioneers and the old steam trains. The tour starts at the old saltpetre bridge, constructed in 1872, where British boats used to export the precious white powder, saltpetre. Following this are the important historical buildings such as the Resguardo and the Gobernacion Maritima. The latter has since been converted into the Antafogasta Regional Museum and contains a complete exhibition of the natural history and culture of the region. The centenary railway station and other related buildings can also be seen along the way. At the end of the 19th century, Antofogasta became one of the most important nitrate areas of the northern coast. It was here that the most crucial martial conflict was fought between the young republics of Chile and Bolivia. Thousands of soldiers from both nations fought cruel battles in the Pacific War, which resulted in the annexation of this entire province to the Government of Santiago. The mineral wealth and the interest created by firms of that era transformed this zone, which was originally discovered by the Chilean explorers Juan López y José Santos Ossa, in to one of the more prosperous regions, until its decline in the thirties. During the 20th century, saltpetre was substituted by large deposits of copper, now mined at Chuquicamata and Mina La Escondida, which has since revived region. Today, the city’s main activities include fishing and exporting metals. We recommend a visit to the old port, the fair and the fishing terminal, where you can see ships docking and the seafood market. It is not only history however, that is important in this corner enveloped by the blue sea. In the north, towards the Bay of Mejillones, there are huge cliffs that form what is considered by its inhabitants, to be the most dearly loved symbol of the city, La Portada de Antafogasta. This large, natural monument has been formed through millions of years of erosion from the sea. Its magnificent arch which sits on a volcanic island, can be seen on many postcards of the city. Other popular options are excursions outside the city’s centre. Beaches like Almejas, Huascar and the Balneario Municipal in the south have good places to swim and restaurants close to the central campus of the University of Antafogasta. To the north there is a long road near the beaches of Galeón and de la Chimba, which offers spectacular views of the coast. Continuing along this road, you will pass other places of interest, including the ruins of Huanchaca, an old silver mine made in 1873 which, in its prime period, produced 20 tons silver every month. Another popular place is the Paseo Del Mar, where the city´s youth gather throughout the day and night to enjoy the various activities offered there. At the end of this entertaining strip you can see the old Oficina Salitrera José Francisco Vergara, a national monument and the cranes of the mineral port La Escondida. From this regional centre there are also many different trips that are worth taking. One example is the route that goes to Taltal, passing through the legendary mining areas and the spectacular observatory of Cerro Paranal which pertains to the Observatorio Austral Europeo, the most advanced of its type in the world. Another trip to the north is along the circuit that covers the renowned Mejillones Cove and Hornitos, one of the best beaches in the country.

Day 8 Cruising
Day 9 Port of Call Coquimbo Arrival 8:00am Departure 5:00pm

Overview

It is the main port for the area and includes a rocky peninsula that forms the southern part of the bay that both cities sit upon (Bahia de Coquimbo). A labyrinth of unique houses and assorted buildings has grown up on the rocky outcrops of the peninsula that overlook the central plaza as well as the main port. This area is well worth a visit (in daytime only, as shadier folk seem to populate it at night), with a dozen or so zig-zagging stairways winding upwards at the end of the main avenues of town. A fantastic view of the entire bay including La Serena in the distance is possible from one of the many miradores (lookouts) up top. There are also tidal pools at the point of the peninsula that are a popular swimming spot at low tide. Outrageously good seafood can be had at the various restaurants around the central market or purchased fresh from the stalls at the pier moments after arriving from the fleet of boats that dock there. From the wharf one can take tranquil half hour tours of the harbor and enjoy the feel of the ocean as well as its salty smell. Like La Serena, Coquimbo is surrounded by some of Chile´s most beautiful beaches both to the north and south.

Day 10 Port of Call San Antonio/Chile Arrival 9:00am

Overview

San Antonio Port is the most important port of Chile and is located in the central zone of the country, it is the nearest port to the metropolis , Santiago. Its influence area is formed by central Chile and Mendoza province of Argentina. San Antonio Port has the four Gantry cranes existing in the South American Pacific Coast. Besides, it has modern equipment for the transference of cargo and portage: two Gottwald cranes , two Demag cranes, one Level Luffing crane especialized in solid bulk transference, 14 reach stacker cranes and 12 units specialized in the portage of containers. Start with lobster ravioli, followed by arugula and radicchio with prosciutto chips, and a Venetian seafood platter. You won’t be able to say no to these famous desserts: marsala custard, lemon soufflé, or tiramisu. The chefs love to be inspired, so after an on shore visit to a local market, you can also expect a delectable dish so local, you’ll feel like you’re not onboard anymore.

Prime C: At Prime C, you’re in for more than an array of delectable dining such as steaks cooked to perfection, crab cakes with remoulade, lobster bisque, lamb, game hens and seafood. Last but certainly not least, try the mini cinnamon-sugar donuts with dipping sauces for dessert. Expect a marvelous evening in a warm wood-paneled ambiance with stunning views and lush décor. If the chef has made a visit to a local market while in port, you’ll also have an authentic local dish to look forward to.

Specialty Dining: Guests staying in a suite are welcome to dine any night of the voyage in Aqualina or Prime C at no charge. Guests who have booked a Club Veranda, Club Oceanview, or Club Interior stateroom are subject to a USD 30 per-person cover charge in Aqualina or Prime C.

And for a little touch of whimsy, a self-serve frozen yogurt station—Swirl & Top. With a variety of flavors and your choice of toppings, it's the perfect way to cool off during the day or end your evening meal.
