Whether in his family kitchen, preparing plates of Middle Eastern and Italian comfort food with his mother, or working in restaurant kitchens owned by his father and grandfather, Sam Hazen has been surrounded by food from a young age. Upon graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in 1982, Hazen worked his way up to sous chef at the iconic La Côte Basque, then Hazen served as roundsman at the 4-star Quilted Giraffe in New York City. Following his tenure at Quilted Giraffe, Hazen was appointed chef de partie at Albert Roux's three-star Michelin restaurant, Le Gavroche, in London. In Britain he also spent time in the kitchen of Raymond Blanc at Manoir au Quat Seasons and Michel Roux's Waterside. His European travels also included a stage at Marchesi in Milan before returning to the States as Executive Chef of Terrace in the Sky. Sam Hazen is also credited with building two influential culinary successes: TAO New York and TAO Las Vegas and served as the corporate chef of TAO Group for over a decade. In addition, he conceived and opened Rue 57, Avra, and Bolzano's. Research for Tao took Hazen to Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Bangkok where he attended cooking school. When creating an Italian menu for Bolzano's, he went straight to the source, studying with the legendary Benedetta Vitali at her Zibibbo restaurant in Florence. In 2011, Hazen joined the team at the Michelin-starred Veritas. During this time, Hazen reinvented the menu, making it more streamlined, approachable and accessible and under his direction, the restaurant was awarded a coveted three-star review by The New York Times in just four short months after its reopening. At home in New York, he plums his Mediterranean roots and embraces all American local slow cooking. After an amazing run at Veritas, Chef Sam Hazen joined on as culinary director at BR Guest in New York City. Now SVP Culinary for the Good-eating Company USA.

Philipsburg is the capital of St. Maarten, the Dutch side of the Caribbean island St. Maarten. Beachfront bars line the boardwalk along Great Bay. Voorstraat, or Front Street, has duty-free shops and casinos. The St. Maarten Zoo is home to parrots, monkeys and a playground. St. Maarten Museum displays artifacts from the indigenous Arawak people. The ruins of 17th-century Fort Amsterdam stand on a nearby peninsula.

Powdery white-sand beaches, lush green mountains, and a sheltered yacht-filled harbor characterize the island of Tortola, where the past of the West Indies meets the present of the BVI. The largest island in the chain, Tortola offers a variety of exciting vacation possibilities. The protected anchorages at Brandywine Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Hodge's Creek Marina Cay, Soper's Hole, and Trellis Bay are ideal for boaters. Secluded palm-shaded beaches at Apple Bay, Brewer's Bay, Elizabeth Beach, Josiah's Bay Beach, Long Bay Beach, and Smuggler's Cove make for excellent swimming and snorkelling. Local delicacies such as fresh lobster, conch, spicy goat, curries, and Johnny Cakes make each meal memorable. Escape to the cool slopes of Sage Mountain National Park, where traces of the primaeval rain forest can still be seen at higher elevations.
