Steeped in history and bursting with contemporary flair, Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland, was founded around 870 C.E, marking the birth of the first permanent settlement on this island nation. The small Greenlandic town of Ittoqqortoormiit sits at the entrance to Scoresby Sund, the longest fjord on Earth. Although founded in 1925, the original colonists to the area were Palaeo-Eskimo peoples 4,000 years ago.

Seabourn Venture will include a variety of shore excursions and or Expedition experiences throughout a given voyage. Dublin is the capital of Ireland, and Irish culture and cuisine. The regional and microbreweries that once flourished, although crowded out of business for the last hundred or so years by Guinness, more for its marketing and transportation triumphs than necessarily for qualitative reasons, are coming back to add local color and variety to the famous old Irish pubs. Ireland has produced some of the world’s greatest writers, and in its traditional folk ballads and rich melodies, you can hear the unique elements that form the roots of modern rhythm and blues music.

Calf of Man is a 2.50-square-kilometre island, off the southwest coast of the Isle of Man. It is separated from the Isle of Man by a narrow stretch of water called the Calf Sound. Like the nearby rocky islets of Chicken Rock and Kitterland, it is part of the parish of Rushen. It has only two seasonal inhabitants.

The Island is a unique self-governing kingdom - a Crown dependency that belongs to neither the UK nor the European Union. It has its parliament (called Tynwald), laws, traditions, culture, cuisine, and postage stamps. But as a holiday island,d it is best known for its very agreeable and relaxed pace of life, along with a wealth of attractions and places to stay. While other differences include the Manx language and currency (though English is the spoken tongue and English and UK currencies are accepted everywhere), there are also reassuring familiarities - such as driving on the left and road signs in English. The thriving east coast town and port of Douglas is the capital of the Isle of Man. The hub of much activity, it offers a great variety of accommodations, holiday attractions,s and other visitor facilities such as first-class shopping, banks, building societies, and car hire. Douglas is 16 miles from the northern coastal town of Ramsey, 12 miles from Castletown on the south coast, and 11 miles from the west coast port of Peel.Other popular holiday towns and resorts are Port Erin, Ramsey, Peel, Castletown, Port St Mary and Laxey. There are also many lovely villages nestling in beautiful countryside and offering idyllic rural accommodation. The town of Rothesay is the principal town on the Isle of Bute, in the council area of Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It can be reached by ferry from Wemyss Bay which offers an onward rail link to Glasgow.

Mull's chief town, Tobermory, at the northern tip of the islands, is easily the most attractive fishing port on the west coast of Scotland, its clusters of brightly coloured houses and boats sheltering in a bay backed by a steep bluff. Founded in 1788 by the British Society for Encouraging Fisheries, it never really took off as a fishing port and only survived due to the steady influx of crofters evicted from other parts of the island during the Clearances. With a population of more than 800, it is, without doubt, the capital of Mull, and if tourists are staying any length of time on the island they are bound to end up here, not least because it has a Womble named after it. The harbour's shops are good for browsing, and tourists can pay a visit to the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust, run by a welcoming bunch of enthusiasts. The small office has lots of information on how to identify marine mammals, and on recent sightings. They're very child-friendly, too, and will keep kids amused for an hour or so with computer marine games, word searches and a bit of artwork. Sea Life Surveys (tel 01688/302787, www.sealifesurveys.co.uk), who offer a variety of whale- and dolphin-watching tours, are run from the same office.

The Saint Kilda (Scottish Gaelic: Hiort) archipelago, in the North Atlantic, is at the outermost limits of the British Isles. Situated 66 km west-north-west of North Uist, only Rockall is further away from the British mainland. The entire archipelago is owned by the National Trust for Scotland and is a World Heritage Site. The name Saint Kilda is derived from the Norse word skildir, meaning "shields."Hirta is the largest island in the group, followed by Soay (2 km northwest of Hirta) and Boreray (6 km northeast of Hirta); there are several smaller islets including Dun, Levinish, Stac Le,e and Stac an Armin.Saint Kilda had been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times but the population dwindled with emigration to the United States and Australia. The population declined to such a level that the economy broke down. There are no permanent residents today but the main island of Hirta is occupied all year round by the people who work on the military base (now almost entirely a civilian workforce), and scientists who research the feral Soay sheep population.The archipelago was inscribed as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1986 and this status was extended to the surrounding marine environment in 2003. It is a breeding ground for many important seabird species including Gannets (the world's largest colony), Puffins, and Leach's Petrels. The small island of Dun is home to the largest colony of Fulmars in Britain.The St Kilda archipelago is also the site of the most spectacular sea cliffs in the BritishIsless. The highest point in the archipelago is Conachair at 430 m. The whole north face of Conachair is a vertical cliff over 300 m high, falling sheer into the sea. Boreray reaches 384 m, and Soay reaches 378 m.

Lerwick, the lively capital of Shetland, centers around its important and busy harbor, particularly during the summer months, when yachts, cruise liners, private yachts, and motor cruisers arrive from ports all around the North Atlantic. Lerwick has a population of around 7,500, approximately one-third of Shetland's total population. The shops, pubs, restaurants, hotels, and guesthouses bustle all year with locals, visiting businessmen, tourists, and seafarers. A mix of old and new, the town offers visitors a range of things to do and see. Places of interest include Clickimin Broch - an outstanding example of Bronze Age and Iron Age architecture; Fort Charlotte - built in 1665 and has good views from the gunports; the Bod of Gremista - an 18th-century fishing booth; and the picture-postcard Lodberries - old merchants' houses with their piers. The Museum has a fascinating collection of artifacts illustrating Shetland's history. Elsewhere special exhibitions depict Shetland tradition and crafts - knitting, spinning, lace-making, fiddle music, and Up Helly Aa.

Situated to the east of the island of Bressay in the Shetland Islands, the uninhabited Isle of Noss with its Old Red Sandstone cliffs is home to a large number of nesting seabirds including great skua, arctic skua, gannet, kittiwake, fulmar, puffin and guillemot. The island, which has been a National Nature Reserve since 1955, extends over an area of 343 ha (847 acres) and rises to a height of 180m (590 feet) at the Noup of Noss. Now managed jointly by the Garth Estate and Scottish Natural Heritage, the island's small population was largely cleared in the 1870s. Today Noss provides grazing for Shetland ewes and welcomes summer visitors who come to see the island's birdlife.
