Due to COVID and car manufacturing shortages, rental car availability is extremely limited. If you are not able to find a rental car for your desired travel dates, please either search for new travel dates or select a transfer service instead.

Fully Vaccinated Travelers (12 and older): Hawaii will eliminate its pre-travel testing/quarantine requirement for domestic travelers age 12 and older who have been fully vaccinated (15 days after getting their FINAL shot) in the United States. Fully vaccinated travelers must upload their CDC-issued vaccination record card to the state's Safe Travels Program website https://travel.hawaii.gov/. In addition, fully vaccinated travelers must carry their physical CDC-issued vaccination record card with them and present it upon arrival in the State of Hawaii. Photocopies, scanned copies or other reproductions will not be accepted and entry will be denied. Airlines will be checking for the required Safe Travel QR code before departure. Please review the following website for additional information and FAQ: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel/faqs/. All policies are subject to change and are outside the control of Costco Travel.

Non-Vaccinated Travelers: To avoid a mandatory 10-day quarantine upon arrival on Hawaii Island, Maui, Kauai and Oahu, travelers are required to take an FDA-authorized NAAT test from a CLIA-certified lab no more than 72 hours prior to departure to the island. (Children ages 4 and younger are exempt from the test requirement.) If test results are not available prior to departure to Hawaii, the traveler must remain in quarantine. The State of Hawaii will only accept test results from the Trusted Testing and Travel Partners listed here: https://hawaiicovid19.com/travel-partners/.

More About Kona Coast

Offering ample sun and clear waters, the Kona Coast is the prime area on Hawaii Island for discovering marine life. The calm and clear waters aid in spotting passing dolphin pods, manta rays, and honu (green sea turtles).

Historic Kailua Town is a seaside village on the Kona Coast. Down on Alii Drive, you can stop in and tour the Hulihee Palace and the Mokuaikaua Church. The Hulihee Palace was built in 1838 as a summer home for Hawaiian royalty and today is a museum with artifacts from King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani. Before heading back to your resort, stop off at the Kailua Pier for some spectacular sunsets.

To the south of Kona Airport is the Kaloko-Honokohau and Puuhonua o Honaunau National Parks. The Kaloko-Honokohau National Park is home to Hawaiian fishponds, kii pohaku (petroglyphs) and heiau (sacred place of worship). The visitor center offers excellent insight into what life was like for Native Hawaiians. Puuhonua o Honaunau National Park, once Royal grounds and a place of refuge for ancient Hawaiians who broke kapu (the law) is hundreds of years old and beautifully restored.

No trip to the Kona Coast could be complete without a stop at a local coffee farm. Reflect on your vacation and relive the memories with family and friends with a cup of 100% Kona coffee. The perfect souvenir to bring home.
