Itinerary Days 1 - 3

Day 1

  • Depart from New York, NY (JFK) or Washington D.C. (IAD) on your international South African Airways flight to Cape Town, South Africa via Johannesburg.


Day 2

  • Upon arrival at Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo International Airport's Central Terminal Building, collect your luggage and then clear immigration and customs. Recheck your bags for your domestic flight to Cape Town.

  • On arrival at Cape Town Airport, you’ll be met by a Lion World Travel representative and transferred to your hotel.

  • The luxurious 5-star Cape Grace Hotel, a member of the Leading Hotels of the World, is perfectly located within the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront with its array of shops, restaurants and nightlife.

  • Sophisticated and infused with local charm, each of the guest rooms has a distinct décor, featuring antiques, hand-painted fabrics, and thoughtfully chosen African artifacts. Staying at Cape Grace is an experience, melding the modern comforts of a Cape Town luxury hotel with traditional Cape culture. And there is no better position for a V&A Waterfront hotel than with Table Mountain standing sentry and towering over the hotel, a working harbor to one side and a multi-millionaire yacht basin on the other. Day 3

  • After breakfast today, you will depart to Table Mountain, the most iconic landmark of South Africa. Take a cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain (subject to weather conditions) to enjoy the magnificent view of the Cape. The plateaus flanked by Devil’s Peak and by Lion’s Head, form a dramatic backdrop to Cape Town. Table Mountain is often covered by clouds to form the so-called "table cloth" of cloud. Not only is Table Mountain a scenic photograph background or a place from where you can take breathtaking photos of Cape Town, there are about 2,200 species of plants and 1,470 floral species found there. After marveling at the views, you will depart on a Cape Peninsula Tour.

  • On this tour you’ll see why the area earned the name of The Fairest Cape. Sit back and relax as you drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire’s Paradise—from Clifton to Camps Bay, to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno and toward the charming working harbor of Hout Bay. If you choose, you can embark on an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise (own expense).

  • The tour then winds its way along the legendary Chapman’s Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and offering breathtaking ocean views. After a stop for lunch (own expense), visit the wild and beautiful Cape of Good Hope Section of Table Mountain National Park, an integral part of the world-renowned Cape Floral Kingdom. You’ll have the opportunity to ride the Flying Dutchman funicular (own expense) to the old lighthouse for awe-inspiring views.

  • Finally, the tour makes its way back along the coast toward the city, visiting the historic naval port of Simon’s Town and the endearing African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. The African Penguin used to be called a “jackass” penguin because its call is similar to that of a braying donkey.

Itinerary Days 4 - 6

Day 4

  • This morning you will take a Robben Island Tour with Christo Brand, who was Nelson Mandela's prison warden on Robben Island for many years. For nearly 400 years, Robben Island was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment for political "troublemakers" and social outcasts. During the apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. Nelson Mandela spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for his beliefs. Robben Island came to symbolize, not only for South Africa and the African continent, but also for the entire world, the triumph of the human spirit over enormous hardship and adversity.

  • You will be escorted around the island and given insight into the past and how the human spirit triumphs. Christo Brand has a fabulous story to tell of their extraordinary and close friendship that continued from beyond the prison cell into Parliament. You will also receive a signed copy of his book Mandela: My Prisoner, My Friend.

  • Return to the hotel to enjoy some leisure time.

  • Later this evening, enjoy a special Seven Course Tasting Menu in Signal Restaurant at the Cape Grace Hotel which will include wine pairing.

Day 5

  • After breakfast you will be transferred to a helipad in the Waterfront area. Experience some magnificent views when you take a helicopter flight along the Atlantic Seaboard from the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront to Grootbos Private Nature Reserve (this is subject to weather conditions).

  • Grootbos Private Nature Reserve, is in Gansbaai is a leading example of sustainable eco-tourism in the Western Cape. This relaxing and beautiful place overlooks Walker Bay and is surrounded by indigenous Fynbos (shrubs) and forest clad hills. Home of the "Marine Big 5" - whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins; and with unparalleled floral diversity.

  • Here you will also enjoy lunch and have some time at leisure to explore this magnificent area.

  • Following lunch, you will be transferred a short distance away to De Kelders which is one of the best places in the world for land-based whale watching.

  • After your tour today, you will then board your helicopter flight back to Cape Town. The flight takes about 30-40 minutes in each direction and you will be able to enjoy Cape Town from a bird’s eye view. Please note that as a safety precaution, seats on the light aircraft have a weight restriction and we can give you more information on this.

Day 6

  • After breakfast this morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in a chauffeur driven Vintage Car and taken on an exclusive Costco Travel Franschhoek Experience Tour to the exquisite Franschhoek Valley in the beautiful mountains of the Cape Winelands.

  • The first stop is at La Bourgogne Wine Farm which was among the first Huguenot farms proclaimed in 1694, where you will enjoy tasting Olive Oil, Olives and Fruit Preserves ending with a wine tasting and cellar tour.

  • Lunch will be at Paulina’s Restaurant at Rickety Bridge Winery. Take a seat overlooking the Rickety Bridge vineyards. Sip a glass of crisp estate wine and enjoy a delicious lunch while taking in the magnificent setting and stunning views of the Franschhoek mountains.

  • After lunch you will participate in an hour Wine Blending Experience. This interactive blending experience offers something to both wine novices and enthusiasts alike. The wine blending session will give you a chance to experience a crucial part of the wine making process, and you leave with a specially labelled bottle of wine to drink that day!

  • You’ll then have some free time to explore the quaint little town of Franschhoek before returning to Cape Town in the late afternoon. Franschhoek is known as the gourmet capital of South Africa. Here, visitors are spoiled with a wide range of award-winning restaurants and wine producers amid spectacular settings of mountains, fynbos (local unique vegetation) and, of course, vineyards. Franschhoek offers a variety of boutiques, specialty retail shops, art galleries, and a market.

Itinerary Days 7 - 9

Day 7

  • It is time to say goodbye to beautiful Cape Town as you are taken by private transfer from Cape Grace Hotel to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Hoedspruit.

  • On arrival you will be met and transferred to Kapama Karula Lodge where you will spend 3-nights including all meals, two game drives in open safari vehicles, and all local and premium beverages.

  • Kapama Karula is set on the banks of the perennial Klaserie River and is the reserve’s most secluded and prestigious lodge. Meaning ‘place of peace’ in the local language, Kapama Karula exudes calmness and depicts the pinnacle of luxury 5-star safari accommodation. The meandering river running through the camp enhances the sense of tranquillity at this elegant and luxurious safari lodge.

  • Five spacious suites all have indoor and outdoor showers, his and hers basins and a bath in the en-suite bathrooms. Standard in each suite are minibars with an extensive selection of wines and champagne, Nespresso coffee machines, safes and wall-mounted international adaptors. There are also telephones, overhead fans, air conditioners and gas-heated fireplaces in the suites.

  • This afternoon head out on an open vehicle game drive in Kapama Private Game Reserve – sure to be a thrilling experience! Remember to take your camera!

  • On one of your nights on safari, you will have a night under the stars and stay in the ultimate bush bedroom, a luxury treehouse!

  • This fairy-tale experience awaits you with the Kapama Romantic Sleepout. Sleep in the open air on a private platform high above the ground, illuminated by a golden ring of lantern light. Begin at your sunset arrival, have dinner in the air from your private chef and fall asleep under a million stars for a romantic experience that is unmatched.

Day 8

  • Enjoy an early morning game drive and one in the late afternoon, accompanied by a skilled ranger and tracker. See a diverse range of Africa’s animals and around 350 bird species.

  • During your stay you will be flown by helicopter to a picnic spot in the Drakensburg Mountains for a plated served lunch overlooking the valley.

  • The Drakensberg is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa with peaks reaching 11,423 feet above sea-level, so the views and natural beauty of the area are spectacular. You will return to the lodge in time for the afternoon game drive.

  • Since this is a ‘Big Five’ reserve, seeing Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard is possible over a three day stay. While seeing big game is always exhilarating, there are many other smaller species that are also captivating. Please note that as a safety precaution, seats on the light aircraft have a weight restriction and we can give you more information on this.

Day 9

  • Spend another day at Kapama Karula Lodge enjoying dawn and dusk open vehicle game drives in this wildlife paradise.

  • The lounge and pool are the ideal place to relax with a good book or soak up the surrounding scenery, and excellent vantage spots from which to view game. In the evening enjoy a dinner around the camp fire.

Itinerary Days 10 - 12

Day 10

  • After an early morning game drive to track the animals that may have eluded you so far, followed by breakfast, you will be transferred to Hoedspruit for your flight to Johannesburg.

  • Upon arrival in Johannesburg you will be met and transferred to the Melrose Arch Hotel where you will spend the night.

  • The Melrose Arch Hotel is located in Johannesburg’s Melrose Arch area with its variety of trendy retail shops and leisure amenities. The 5-star Melrose Arch Hotel is bright and modern with the ultimate in service and technology. Day 11

  • Today you will be transferred from your hotel to Oliver Tambo International Airport for your scheduled flight to Victoria Falls.

  • On arrival, you will be met and transferred to Victoria Falls Island Lodge, where you will spend 2-nights in a luxury treehouse on a fully inclusive basis including personal Butler service.

  • Nestled on the luxuriant banks of Kandahar Island, and just upstream from the iconic Victoria Falls, positioned on an exclusive Island surrounded by the flowing waters of the mighty Zambezi and accessible by boat only, Victoria Falls River Lodge invites you to experience pure serenity at the all new Island Treehouse Suites.   • You have the option of a sunrise or sunset river cruise. Watch from the comfort of Victoria Falls River Lodge’s private river cruiser. In the early morning as the world awakes and the sun’s first rays skip and dance across the shimmering surface of the mighty Zambezi.

  • Or in the evening sit back and let the gentle ebb and flow of the Zambezi lull and relax you. Join in on Mother Nature’s Happiest Hour by sipping on a sun-downer while watching her creatures big and small coming to the water’s edge to lap at its liquid life under the molten skies.

  • After returning to the hotel, enjoy an inspiring and unique Southern African meal served in the distinctive thatched riverside dining area.
