On October 20, 2023, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is hosting Kamehameha Schools Presents Indigenous World Cuisines. VIP tickets get early access starting at 5 p.m. Embark on a one-of-a-kind culinary journey with 10 esteemed chefs showcasing their talents by using indigenous ingredients and cooking traditions that offer a glimpse into the culture and history of their respective regions.
On October 21, 2023, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is hosting the Indigenous Food Culture Panel. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join the conversation with chefs leading the charge in decolonizing the plate. Moderated by Kanaka Maoli cultural practitioner and community leader Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, the panel will include Native Hawaiian chef Kealoha Domingo, Maori chef Monique Fiso, Sean Sherman of the Oglala Lakota Nation and Crystal Wahpepah of the Kickapoo Nation. They'll discuss the importance of land management and native agriculture, obstacles to accessing indigenous food ways, the impact on the health and wellness of communities, and how the past affects food sovereignty for the future.
