Since rolling out Global Entry in 2008 and TSA PreCheck in 2013, U.S. Customs and Border Protection continually updates these programs to the benefit of their membership. Some of the latest updates have helped members speed through pre-flight security processes as well as re-entry into the United States. Here are some things I’ve learned that are coming in 2024 that you should be aware of.
Background
"Global Entry is a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Members enter the United States by accessing the Global Entry processing technology at designated locations. TSA PreCheck is a Trusted Traveler Program offering expedited security screening at the airport, connecting low-risk travelers with security tailored to their TSA PreCheck status and a better air travel experience." – As stated by U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Of note: Global Entry members automatically receive TSA PreCheck with no additional application submission or interview requirement. However, if you choose TSA PreCheck only, and then find yourself travel internationally, you will be required to wade through the standard Customs and Border Protection (CBP) passport inspection lines which can be quite long during peak travel periods (and this not helpful if you are trying to make a tight flight connection or simply want to get to your destination faster). Memberships are designed to last 5 years and require a processing fee and interview with CBP (for Global Entry) or TSA (for TSA PreCheck).

What’s New
As it has been in the past, biometric information remains at the heart of both programs and their identity authentication processes. The following new technologies have been embraced and are now in effect at select airports or will be deployed after “real world" testing at certain locations or with select airlines:
Secure biometric facial scans are an optional process for passengers, who may opt-out of the process at any time and instead choose the standard identity verification by a Transportation Security Officer (TSO). If you do choose to opt-out, you will proceed through the manual identity verification process.
