Walking through Times Square is not just for New Year’s Eve. Known as the “Crossroads of the World”, this vibrant section of New York City attracts millions of visitors every year. Friendly to foot traffic, Broadway is closed to vehicular traffic between 42nd and 47th Streets. The dazzling lights, bright screens and fun atmosphere make Times Square a fun family-friendly experience. They also have some great shopping like Disney Store, Hershey’s Chocolate World and the Krispy Kreme Flagship store… although it might be hard to get out of any of them without spending money on treats. While you’re all sugared up, take advantage of the free outdoor events and music during the summer and fall months. We recommend staying at The Times Square EDITION - Opens a dialog while you are in New York, which is easily within walking distance of Times Square.

Central Park
No trip to New York City is complete without a day trip to Central Park. With it’s 843 acres, this park is 2.5 miles long and half a mile wide of pure nature and cool points of interest. One of the most well-known points of interest in Central park is Bethesda Terrace. This large plaza consists of two levels, and features a fountain that was in The Avengers (at the end of the movie, look carefully and you’ll see the angel.) If you are looking for a fabulous picnic spot, Sheep Meadow will do nicely, with it’s rolling grass hills there’s no better place to spread out a blanket and enjoy a meal. A cool feature for kids is the Alice in Wonderland and Hans Christian Andersen statues. They were built for kids and meant for climbing… no need to tell the little ones not to touch! For something really historic, you can also see The Obelisk. Nicknamed Cleopatra’s Needle, this artifact was created around 1425 BCE in Egypt. The Obelisk is unsurprisingly the oldest outdoor monument in New York City. Spanning over 6,000 feet, this bridge between Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn Heights is one of the most photographed bridges in the world. Featuring beautiful, strong stone arches, this bridge supports six lanes of traffic and also has a shared pedestrian/bike path. A great place to view (and snap a few pictures while you’re there!) is Brooklyn Bridge Park. This waterfront park boasts a multitude of things to do, including playgrounds for young and old alike, several sports courts from basketball to pickleball, and even bird watching. Guarded by enormous stone lions, the New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street (Stephen A. Schwarzman Building) is the flagship location and well worth a visit. Known for it’s amazing historical collections, this is one of the New York Public Library’s premier research centers. You can learn about the history, legacy and collections in interactive exhibits at the library’s visitor center. Treasure can be found… 125 years of historical treasure that is… in the Polonsky Exhibition. Some of the most extraordinary items can be discovered here. The Stephen A. Schwarzman Building symbolizes the idea of free and open access to knowledge, and welcomes millions of visitors every year. The Shelburne Sonesta New York - Opens a dialog is located approximately a half mile from the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, making this an easy 15-minute walk.
