That’s where I want to be. This prestigious neighborhood is a choice residence for Hollywood stars and affluent Los Angelenos, and it’s easy to see why. In addition to being home to the famed, high-end shopping district, Rodeo Drive, it is helpfully located in the heart of Los Angeles.
Santa Monica Boulevard led me to all my desired SoCal sights–from the Hollywood sign to Santa Monica Beach. I rented a car and stayed at the Kimpton Palomar Los Angeles, where I was treated to free parking, a gifted birthday bottle of wine, and free accommodations for my dog in tow, Maizey.

Beverly Hills Garden Park
Not far from the Kimpton was a popular photo-op off of Santa Monica Boulevard: the Beverly Hills sign in Beverly Gardens Park. I parked for free in the beautiful residential neighborhoods. After snapping my selfie, I jogged down the 2-mile dirt path through palm trees and storefronts. Before returning to my rental car, I sat in the shade of the Moreton Bay Fig tree. Its 100+ year-old gnarled, sprawling branches made for a cool resting spot.

Not far from the Kimpton was a popular photo-op off of Santa Monica Boulevard: the Beverly Hills sign in Beverly Gardens Park. I parked for free in the beautiful residential neighborhoods. After snapping my selfie, I jogged down the 2-mile dirt path through palm trees and storefronts. Before returning to my rental car, I sat in the shade of the Moreton Bay Fig tree. Its 100+ year-old gnarled, sprawling branches made for a cool resting spot.

Shop
On Rodeo Drive, I strolled the designer shops and admired the modern architecture. While window shopping for luxury goods, it was hard to believe this haute couture strip started as a dirt road traversed by cattle ranchers. Later, I drove to the outdoor mall, The Grove, where I found commercial retailers and a sprawling food court, The Market. I took a walk on the outskirts of the Grove to an upscale supermarket, Erewhon, where I tried one of their famously expensive smoothies. I tried the Coconut Cloud, akin to a pina colada, and it was worth every penny. Shopping in LA for trendy items and high-end products gave me a glimpse into the culture.

Eat
From fast food to fine dining, I found what I was craving in Beverly Hills. No matter how long a visit I have in LA, In-N-Out Burger is my must-hit burger joint. This famous Southern California food chain is known for its secret menu. A Neapolitan shake, animal fries, and animal sauce on my burger (In-N-Out’s signature concoction of cheese, mayo and sweet pickle relish) are my favorites; I just make sure to grab extra napkins for anything ‘animal style.’ I was excited to have booked a reservation at Nobu, a favorite steak and sushi restaurant among celebrities. The service was assiduous and the trademark black cod and bite-size mini tacos and were delectable!

Hollywood Star Walk
Like Times Square in NYC, the Hollywood Walk of Fame is a must-see. My favorite star names popped out of the pink and black tiles beneath my feet on Hollywood Boulevard. I ended my star walk at the TCL Chinese Theatre and the adjacent Dolby Theatre, the venue which hosts the Oscars awards. Outside the theaters, I found more cement engravings left by actors and actresses. My favorite handprints were left by Marilyn Monroe and the Harry Potter cast. Inside the Dolby Theatre, I perused a showcase of plaques of all the Best Picture winners, including empty plaques for the years and movies to come, on the Awards Walk.
An ideal way to end the trip is with a new ring.
Beach
The Golden Coast is undeniable. On the boardwalk of Santa Monica Pier, I smelled the fried goods of food stands, shopped from souvenir carts, and rode the neon-lighted ferris wheel. Down below the boardwalk were rolling Pacific waves. Off the pier, I spied on Muscle Beach, where top bodybuilders and gymnasts workout on the beachside equipment. The next day, I parked a few miles down the same stretch of coast to explore Venice Beach. In addition to a fishing pier, the neighborhood had a lively bar scene.
Finally–and most eventfully–I drove two hours to Laguna Beach, a quaint, chic beach town, and spent the day at Main Beach, the only swath that’s dog-friendly. At sunset, my boyfriend walked me to a cove and proposed! We walked back along the bioluminescent shoreline hand in hand to end a sparkling night.
Conclusion
Beverly Hills is the perfect location to enjoy the best sights of Los Angeles. A rental car is a must-have to easily get to all the best hiking, beaches, shopping, and touring. The Kimpton Palomar Los Angeles treated me (and my pet) like the stars we are!
