    New York, New York!

The first thing that crosses most people’s minds when they hear or see the name “New York” are the iconic landmarks of New York City, typically: Statue of Liberty, Times Square, the Empire State Building and 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

The state of New York is one that has a focus on business and leisure. As such, its residents naturally know how to work hard and play hard. New York is one of several US states where you can fully experience the four seasons every single year, and it’s also a place where foodies of all types find considerable happiness.

For now, here are a few areas for you to consider for your visit to the Empire State:

A gift from France in 1885, the Statue of Liberty is a must-see attraction for anyone going to New York.

    Manhattan

If you’ve never been to New York, this is the first place you will want to visit. The energy here is palpable and energetic. This is a place where ambitions are pursued, and dreams are realized. It is the largest of the 5 boroughs of New York City and it is the birthplace of the state. As the hub for a multitude of corporations, the New York Stock Exchange and the United Nations, Manhattan is a place of absolute global importance. From the perpetually illuminated Crossroads of America, that is – Times Square, to the natural surroundings of Central Park, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Getting around is easy. New York City’s MTA subways can whisk you from one end of Manhattan to the other in a short length of time. And if you are on a budget, MTA’s subways are the most economical way to reach Manhattan upon landing at JFK (via the AirTrain and then connecting to the subway at the adjacent Jamaica MTA station).

You can spend the mid-morning window shopping on 5th Avenue, experience the views from One World Trade Center Observatory mid-day, and have lunch in Little Italy. In the afternoon, you can visit one of Manhattan’s many museums, enjoy the architecture of the Flatiron Building or even tour the Empire State Building. And in the evening, enjoy a Tony Award-winning show in the Theater District just before enjoying a sumptuous late-night supper at one of Manhattan’s famous steakhouses. There’s so much to do here, you can stay well over a week and never repeat the same experience!

Manhattan is ideal for couples and families with teenagers. The best time to visit is April-June, and the winter holiday season.

Enjoy a side trip to Finger Lakes Wine Country.

        Finger Lakes Wine Country

About four hours northwest from Manhattan, you’ll find yourself in Finger Lakes Wine Country. The lush scenery and natural environs are just as phenomenal as the wines which are produced here. While Riesling reigns supreme you will find a wide selection of varietals as well. The best way to understand and appreciate the wine offerings of this region is to experience its three wine trails in Seneca, Cayuga and Keuka, and all have stunning views! And be sure to try Mead (honey wine) while you’re in the region. However, if wines aren’t of interest to someone in your group, a variety of beers and distilled spirits are also produced here.

Beyond the libations produced within this region of New York, there are wonderful local restaurants, museums, historic sites, horseback riding, fishing, aquatic adventures and so much more to experience.

May through September is the perfect time to visit Finger Lakes Wine Country and it is ideal for couples and families.

              The Adirondack Mountains

With a similar distance from Manhattan, but this time heading north, you’ll arrive in the Adirondack Mountains which is New York’s center of recreation and relaxation. Always very family-friendly, the Adirondack Mountains is one of the most quintessential outdoorsy vacation destinations that bring families together. During the spring, summer and fall, you and your family can hike, bike, golf, enjoy whitewater rafting, canoeing and even diving to explore sunken shipwrecks. During the winter, snow is embraced here. This is evidenced by its winter carnivals, skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and so much more can be experienced in this one-of-a-kind place. On that note, be prepared to take plenty of pictures while exploring some of the nearly 5,000 square miles of scenic landscape of the vast Adirondacks Mountains.

The seasonal cuisine here is an experience unto itself. Fresh Atlantic seafood abounds and even BBQ is something not to be missed. And if your family plans to visit during the winter thaw, be sure to experience “Maple Sugaring” at Adirondack Park.
