Spotlight on San Diego

At Costco Travel, we’re dreaming right along with you about future getaways, graduation celebrations, you name it! We thought it might be fun to explore San Diego from the comfort of your home – who knows, maybe even a jumping-off point for a real-life adventure down the road! Here’s to keeping those dreams alive!
San Diego is renowned for its laid-back beach culture, Cali-Baja cuisine, wines, craft beers, golf, spas and of course the San Diego Zoo. Skateboard legend Tony Hawk, Olympic medalist Shaun White and surfers Rob Machado and Jen Smith call it home. Musician Jason Mraz even has a coffee plantation here! But San Diego’s glorious beaches are usually the first to come to mind.

So, let’s start by getting into the San Diego spirit. Download a San Diego background. Maybe use it for a Zoom or Microsoft Teams meeting. Now that you can visualize San Diego, consider surrounding yourself with the sounds of San Diego. Spotify offers a San Diego Symphony channel or listen to a San Diego podcast. Here are a few to consider: Masterpiece Minute (art), Voice of San Diego (culture, politics) or San Diego Magazine's Happy Half-Hour (food news, restaurant reviews). If the surf at La Jolla inspires you, an online search will bring back dozens of live beach webcams.
A Taste of San Diego
Speaking of food, how about whipping up some San-Diego-style fish tacos? Serve them up with signature San Diego drinks like the Cabrillo Cooler or Point Loma Punch. If touring wineries is more your style the San Diego Vintners Association offers an interactive map that occasionally includes virtual wine tastings; peruse the offerings, order ahead online and swirl, sip and savor away!
Sightseeing and Activities
San Diego has activities for all types of travelers.

Looking to relax and unwind? Online Yoga classes are available through Yoga One.

If golf is more your style, check out Torrey Pines. You can practice your putting viewing the live streaming of the course which features breathtaking Pacific Ocean views.

With or without kids the San Diego Zoo is a must when it comes to local activities. Their live webcams give you a glimpse into the amazing creatures you’ll find at the zoo. The zoo even offers opportunities to volunteer from home! Your inner naturalist can help classify wildflowers or document the behavior of California’s Burrowing Owls.

For history and military buffs check out the USS Midway Museum. They offer a 360-degree virtual tour and audio tours of everything from an F4F Wildcat to the brig, all guided by Midway pilots.
There’s so much San Diego to see, taste and experience, even from home. We hope to see you there in person soon, but in the meantime, the possibilities abound!
